Spring awakening in Castelrotto

Discover the beauty of the Dolomites

When the countryside starts to shake off the snow and reawaken, there are innumerable opportunities to revel in its beauty. Whether on foot, bike, horseback, paraglider or horse-drawn carriage, in the valley, the low mountain ranges or way up high: the impressions and views are guaranteed to take your breath away.

When the days start to get longer and the rays of the sun get ever warmer, Castelrotto can be seen at its most beautiful. No rush or frenzy, living life at its own pace, watching the farmers ploughing the fields, playing a round of golf on the 18-hole golf course in S. Vigilio or heading up to the Alpe di Siusi to photograph the first alpine flowers of the year: deep-blue gentian, violet bluebells, sky-blue forget-me-nots, yellow anemones, lilac crocuses or velvety brown prunella.

Oswald-von-Wolkenstein-Ritt

Rejoice in the apple blossom in the low lying village of San Osvaldo and take a trip to the ice holes. Make your way to see one of the main highlights of spring, the Oswald von Wolkenstein riding tournament. This adrenaline-charged horse show blends medieval tradition with horse riding, and sees 36 teams from the Dolomite region put themselves to the test in a four-stage tournament. The route leads through Castelrotto to Prosels Castle where, after the ride through the gates, the winning team claims its victory. Our verdict?

An absolute must see event, with all the rootsy atmosphere of a traditional festival.
