Autumn in Kastelruth is harvest time. The Alpine cattle come back to their stalls for winter, the last of the hay is brought in, the apples and grapes on the southern slopes are being stored for the year. The leaf-and-larch woods take on a thousand hues, all set off by the deep blue skies. Autumn in Kastelruth is the time of sparrows, the time to enjoy a hike, the time to enjoy chestnut Törggelen expeditions.
Yes, you read right – the Kastelruther Spatzen are home once more and with them, the thousands of fan who flock to their concerts. For the “sparrows” in question are none other than the “Kastelruther Spatzen”, famed local band and stars of the folk music scene.
Every year in October there is the “Kastelruther Spatzen” party, a spectacular extravaganza indeed. And the Seiser Alm and the Kastelruth region themselves are no less spectacular in autumn; it’s incredible how many co-lourful autumn pictures the autumn can conjure up, with its light-and-shade effects and crystal clear panoramic views.
An absolutely wonderful season for hiking, and also a great opportunity to enjoy a Törggelen chestnut-and-wine excursion. Sample the new wines and tuck in to the roast chestnuts, speck, smoked Kaminwurzen sausage and deliciously brittle Schüttelbrot bread. It’s time enjoy the tastes of autumn, time to wind down and to admire the beauty of the countryside as the first snow falls on the peaks of the Dolomites and the green of the meadows begins to retreat. Until next spring in Kastelruth.
